Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has once again landed among the top historical games. Its release on February 4, 2025, confirmed that the game is something truly special. Now that the initial wave of hype and mixed reactions has passed, it’s clear this is a game that shouldn’t be missed.
Story
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (KCD II) is a role-playing game with survival elements. Set in 15th-century Bohemia, the story once again follows Henry of Skalitz, who continues his personal quest for revenge against the King of Hungary, Sigismund, after the murder of his parents. The game invites players to live out a legend against the backdrop of actual historical events in real-life Bohemian locations. In fact, many of the towns and villages depicted in the game still exist today.
The plot can be various an depend on the gamer’s choices. Even the smallest events are presented with multiple possible outcomes, encouraging multiple playthroughs to uncover all narrative branches. Early on, the game does nudge players toward certain choices, but it gradually opens up.

Gameplay
KCD II is an open-world RPG. According to the developers, the game’s world has doubled in size compared to its first part.
The sequel introduces a reputation system. NPCs will react differently based on your actions, which in turn may affect quest outcomes.
Don’t expect a quick playthrough—quests are complex and often require reading books, carefully exploring locations, and persuading locals to help (which isn’t always easy). These challenges only deepen the immersion and force players to carefully weigh their decisions, especially with the ever-looming threat of losing progress since the last save.
Gear and clothing play a major role. What Henry wears directly impacts how visible he is and how others perceive him. Want better deals and a stronger social presence? Dress in fine clothes or knightly armor. Want to stay hidden? Dark, quiet clothing is your friend. Armor is layered in a historically accurate fashion—padded undergarments, chainmail, plate armor, and outer garments.

There’s also a full suite of survival mechanics. Players must monitor hunger, fatigue, and cleanliness. Failing to do so results in penalties for both combat and social skills. Dirty clothes reduce charisma; clean, well-kept attire boosts it.
The dialogue system allows persuasion through several approaches: rhetoric, charm, intimidation, and more. Additional persuasion options can be unlocked through perks (like First Aid) or by gathering specific information from earlier conversations.
Graphics
The visuals, while not groundbreaking, are solid. What truly shines is the artistic direction. The game frequently delivers breathtaking landscapes, with an exceptional use of color and light that draws you into medieval Bohemia. The lighting system is especially well done: sunsets, sunrises, shimmering water, and dappled forest light all look fantastic. Nighttime is genuinely dark, especially in forests or indoors.
The game world is richly detailed—villagers go about their daily routines, each with their own schedule. The architecture of castles, homes, churches, monasteries, and towns is superb. But this realism can be fragile; an occasional glitch might leave an NPC stuck in a rock or awkwardly sharing a chair with two others.
The UI also deserves praise, with an authentic look inspired by medieval frescoes and engravings. Even the interface adds to the immersion.
Music
The soundtrack blends medieval orchestral themes with traditional Czech folk melodies, perfectly reinforcing the atmosphere and drawing you even deeper into the world.
KCD II is more than just a historical RPG. It’s a rich, immersive experience that rewards attention to detail, thoughtful decision-making, and a willingness to truly live in its world. If you’re a fan of grounded, narrative-driven adventures, this one is well worth your time.
